Alt Public Lands is I spent nearly two decades as a ranger and firefighter for the U.S. Forest Service in Colorados Rocky Mountains. A bunch of years in there was an under attended inauguration, exaggerations of crowd size by the administration, and their subsequent suspension of the NPS Twitter account. This immediate censorship led them to start @AltForestServ, one of the very first Alt #Resistance Twitter accounts. Over the next several years they highlighted the administrations attempts to plunder our public lands, popularized the #KeepItPublic tag, and generally railed against the anti public land agenda being installed in the bureaucracy that controls our public land. Eventually their fear of reprisal led them to distance their #Resistance rhetoric from their employer and they transitioned their Twitter account to @AltPublicLands. Now several years later they no longer work for the federal government and they are exploring ways to apply their nearly two decades of experience in public lands in positive ways. They asked their fellow Twitter #Resisters for suggestions on how they could perhaps begin making some income to support their wife and young son, many quickly suggested Patreon. And here they are trying to find a new path in the world to support their family and the public lands they love.
