Andrew Wilk

Andrew Wilk is teaching at Parkland College in Champaign, IL. Several years of his most recent blog posts are now available as podcasts on Spotify and several other platforms. The easiest direct link to this archive : anchor.fm/andrew-wilk For over 12 years he has been sharing his commentaries through his local newspaper, the websites of others, and (for the past several years) his own blog, Common Sense. From this point forward his weekly blog posts will go up simultaneously on both his own blog [andrewmwilk.com] and here at Patreon, and he hopes he will find readers and possibly supporters. However, his ultimately goal is, as it has always been, to provide thoughtful insights and hopefully stimulate dialogue about the many issues we face today. ABOUT ME I grew up near to New York City, and I later received my BA from Yale University and MA from the University of Connecticut. In addition to teaching at both the secondary and college level over the past two decades, I worked for many years in professional and administrative positions in advertising, journalism, and healthcare. Since 2011 I have taught English and English as a Second Language at Parkland College in Champaign, IL. During the 2014-15 academic year I was nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award in recognition of my work in the classroom. Aside from those pieces posted exclusively on his blog, well over 150 of his commentaries have been published elsewhere. He has also published a novel entitled A Day at the Fair with Chili Boy, which is available as a Kindle download at Amazon.com. ABOUT COMMON SENSE The reason he named his blog Common Sense is simple: He feels we have too little of it in our current public discourse and policies. Too often we are trapped in an endless hell of odd academic theory, interest group navel gazing, and cash for access politics that leaves the average person wondering just who is running the asylum. If we have any hope of solving our nations problems, we need to be able to speak plainly and honestly – and use our common sense when doing so.
