Anna Ruth Hall

Anna Ruth Hall is a wild woman committed to the healing of her body, mind, heart, and soul who creates art as an expression of her spirit’s inner workings. She writes poetry because speaking her truth brings her being to life it lights her up, energizes her, gives her zest to go on. For most of her life she’s held back truths, sucked them in, clenched them down with the strength of her jaw, laughed them off with a false smile, eaten each truth away in donut after donut. She’s been terrified of being “TOO MUCH,” taking up more space than she ought to, scaring people, making others uncomfortable, not belonging, being “found out” about who she really is. UGH. All this holding in is exhausting, it’s made her physically, emotionally, psychically, and spiritually ill, so she’s over it! She’s un-caging her truth today and sharing it with whoever decides to listen. She’s choosing to take up space. She’s deciding there IS ENOUGH SPACE for all the truths to exist together, including hers. Why does she write poetry? Her poetry pours out of her in moments of deep embodiment a swamp of grief-filled tears, the voracious fire of anger pulsing through her shaking limbs, the innocent ecstasy of orgasm. She creates poetry to capture the essence of her embodied states of being, to communicate sensations that lie beneath the reach of everyday speech. The act of poetry, song, and sound is ceremony to her. When the heavy weight of Mother Earth’s pain has stilled her into stagnation, creativity breaks the damn again and again, surging through her physical form like a wild storm, dancing her into song, singing her silence into sound, communicating the long-suppressed messages of her soul.
