Antic in a Drain is Ross Travis, an artistic director who integrates circus and bouffon (a grotesque from of satirical physical theatre) to develop extreme characters and tell stories from the fringes, igniting dialogue and change within communities around ignored or taboo social issues. Ross believes that confronting taboo social issues with humor dissolves their negative power and makes us more empathetic, humble and able to have dialogue across our differences. Laughter is powerful medicine and we need it now more than ever when our society is so tribal and so many are suffering under the unequal systems in which we live. Since 2014, Antic in a Drain has developed three award-winning shows, the latest of which, Tempting Fate, was nominated for six Theatre Bay Area Awards and won for Mask Design. Antic in a Drain has also collaborated with acclaimed international circus companies like Firefly Theatre and Circus in Edmonton and engaged in social work with organizations like The Medical Clown Project. In response to the pandemic devastating work prospects, Antic in a Drain is jumping head first into bringing dark political humor to the internet to grow an audience and diversify revenue streams.
