Black Cat Tutoring

Black Cat Tutoring is a group of experienced, passionate tutors who want to make learning more accessible. If you are looking for a tutor, you may subscribe to the appropriate tier or email them to make arrangements. Here’s a little about them: Carl (he/him) offers French, Spanish, and ESL lessons for teens and adults. English is his first language, but he is a heritage speaker of Spanish and has been speaking French for more than 20 years. He has a master’s degree in French literature with a minor in Spanish language theater. His professional experience includes five years teaching college classes, more than a decade of giving private lessons to students of all levels, and two years teaching groups and individuals exclusively online. Today, he’s a big supporter of online learning, especially for languages. He has methods developed specifically for practicing languages in virtual sessions. Mo (they/them) has been a tutor since 2016 and holds a B.A. from The Evergreen State College with a focus in Mathematics. They specialize in 4th-8th grade math and are also experienced in Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. They bring a patient and encouraging attitude to every tutoring session and work with students to increase their confidence in their math skills, reduce math anxiety, and foster independence in completing assignments. They commonly help students fill in gaps of knowledge in topics like fractions, place value, and negative numbers, which affect students’ ability to keep up with new topics in class. Whether through homework help or by using other rich math tasks that require deep thinking, they help students to build number sense and learn new problem-solving strategies that will build their perseverance and appreciation for the challenge of math. B (they/them) is a Molecular / Cell Biologist, they have a B.A. in Science Communication, and they’ve been working as a tutor since 2015. They were a queer first-generation college student and they know first hand how alienating and shitty academia can be. Their goal is to help you navigate that b.s. to get your B.S. They have experience tutoring middle/high school natural sciences and the following undergrad-level subjects: General Biology Molecular & Cell Biology Transmission & Population Genetics Anatomy & Physiology Microbiology Evolutionary & Developmental Biology (just like in this corny song for nerds) Biochemistry General Chemistry Organic Chemistry Algebra-based Physics Programming in Python (introductory) Science Writing & Science Communication Experiment Design Conan (they/them) Im a recent graduate with a bit over a year of professional experience tutoring. The majority of my work has been as a peer tutor in a college environment, though I have limited experience tutoring middle and high school students as well. As all good tutors do, I aim to meet students where they’re at, build upon solid ground, and work collaboratively to empower tutees to become lifelong learners.
