BlackChat is a series of social salons that originated in the summer of 2016. Originated by intergenerational co-conspirators !Kona and Morgan, BlackChat has dedicated its work to healing the Black communities in the lower mainland, through family reunion styled gatherings. Operating out of pocket and out of home, BlackChat is entirely self-funded. In the fall of 2018, they started a second branch of programming called BlackAttack, their version of community field trips. Past excursions have included Kerry James Marshall at the Rennie Gallery, Hot Brown Honey, and Black Like Me. Through this program, they aim to increase the access and attendance of Black folks at arts and cultural events in the greater Vancouver area. In 2020, BlackChat will be launching its third stream of programming in the form of a podcast. BlackChat the Podcast will be a series of conversations between !Kona and Morgan, interviews with members of the Black community, and a celebration/exploration of being Black in Canada.
