Briggsy is making films on their fishing and filmmaking journey. They have always frothed on fishing, even as a kid they’d want to stay down all day and night constantly casting. Being in nature and by the sea really woke up a part of them that was otherwise dormant, between that, the adrenaline of a bite and the beauty of their elusive silver and scaly friends they were hooked in a very deep way. As they grew up life took them down another route and they ended up working as a 3D animator in cities for the majority of their late teens and 20s (which might sound glamorous but really they were just sitting in a dark room in front of a screen for 16+++ hours a day). Over that decade they became really detached from nature and the ocean that they loved as a kid. It was a dark time in their life but they’re grateful for the experience and lessons they learnt while walking that path. It took nearly going blind and actually losing their wife the first time around to step away from that career. As they picked up the pieces of their life they were lucky enough to find their way back to the ocean. They had moved from the city to their home town where they and Cavy started fishing and surfing together again (like they did as kids). But what started as just a fun escape with their mate soon become an absolute obsession! First once a week, then a couple times a week, then three, four, five, and sure enough it became every single morning and arvo that they could go, constant fishing talk and thoughts. It really did become the most important thing in their lives and still is, no matter what, they would always find a way to make it down the rocks for a spin! Over time small fish got bigger, and bigger again until they fell in love with the idea of chasing pelagics from shore. Around that same time they started to film and when they watched back their (GoPro hero1 haha) footage they realised they were doing something pretty different when compared to fishing shows on TV. Documenting their fishing journey had begun, but only after years of building up footage they put together that very first film, uploaded it to Youtube and launched Morningtide Fishing. Pretty early on they realised that the months of work it took to make an MTF film wasn’t ever going to pay their bills (they make about $50-$300 from MTF Youtube films and a lot of the time the trips cost them thousands). So after a good 3 years of striving to make Morningtide into their full time jobs, and absolutely failing, they switched and started the vlog channels. Being able to create more simple films got them uploading consistently and the growth has been amazing! In just a year doing the vlogs they were able to quit the day jobs and scrape by for rent and food on Youtube.
