Caitlin Keegan

Caitlin Keegan is an illustrator based in Brooklyn, New York. Their work incorporates vibrant color and pattern and is heavily focused on symbolic and natural imagery. The Illuminated Tarot grew from their interest in learning more about tarot symbolism and archetypal imagery. They pulled one card at random each week for a year and created their own version. By the end of the year they had illustrated 53 cards that fold the Majors and Minors of the tarot into a deck that can be used for both gameplay and self-reflection. The deck was published by Clarkson Potter. The Illuminated Tarot Guidebook will be written using a process similar to the one used to create the deck: They’ll pull one card at random every week throughout the year and analyze its possible meanings. They’ll also offer a new set of journal prompts each week. Subscribers can use these prompts as a weekly writing exercise or as the basis for meditation and reflection. At the end of the year, they’ll publish the completed guidebook and all subscribers will get a discount on the print or PDF version. Beyond being a home for the guidebook in-progress, they hope this page will become a sort of Illuminated Tarot HQ: a community where readers can learn about the deck, ask questions, and connect with one another. They’ll introduce other types of posts as well! Including, but not limited to: a weekly deck comparison (comparing one card from several different decks), sample spreads and readings, behind the scenes posts about how the deck was created, and sneak peeks of upcoming projects. They’re excited to share this process with those who have already connected with the deck, and with anyone who is curious to learn more.
