Chaesu

Chaesu

Chaesu is a self-taught, colorblind artist. They started drawing in September 2018 because they really liked Orie from the anime fighting game Under Night In-Birth, but were shocked to see a lack of fanart for her. At the time they didn’t have enough money to commission art for her, so they started practicing art themselves. They have since been drawing for an average of 6 hours a day, and were able to develop a process that works around their colorblindness. Chaesu draws on an iPad Pro, and uses Clip Studio Paint app. The digital tools allow them to identify colors and shade in a way that would not be possible for them traditionally. They cannot see shades of red or green the way other people do, and this is a big reason why they love blue-haired characters so much – they really stand out and look beautiful in their eyes. Over time, they started finding joy in expressing themselves more through their art and drawing things that they personally love. Their favorite kind of art are the ones that balance cute and sexy, and they also love sneakers and streetwear. All of these things combined with inspiration from their favorite characters eventually led to designing Minah, their original character.
