Citation Needed is a podcast where the hosts choose a subject, read a single article about it on Wikipedia, and pretend they’re experts. Because this is the internet, and that’s how it works now. In mid-2016, the podcast’s creators decided to collaborate on a project together. They collaborated on a Vulgarity for Charity series for an organization called Modest Needs. Working together on that project got them thinking: what could they do together as creators that would be interesting, somewhat unique, and allow them to have the fun they had during Vulgarity for Charity? So they worked out some ideas and came up with Citation Needed.
