Classic Gaming Quarterly

Classic Gaming Quarterly has been creating documentaries about video game history for almost 6 years. People often ask them if they work in television or radio, but their day job has nothing to do with broadcasting, or with media in general, so this has very much been a “learn by doing” experience for them. When they started the show almost 6 years ago, they were watching other YouTube channels and thought, “I’d like to try that.” Initially, they were just creating videos to embed on their website, but at some point the channel became more popular than the site. Initially, they were just making single-game reviews, and would get excited if they got 100 views. As the channel matured, they began making their signature “Launch” videos, and that’s when things really took off. The first few launch videos, the Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and PlayStation, didn’t really make much of a splash, but on Christmas Day 2015 they released “The Launch of the Sega Saturn”, and it just took off! That very day they began working on “The Launch of the Super Nintendo”, which took about 6 months to produce and has become their most-viewed episode. While dedicating themselves to Classic Gaming Quarterly full-time is not an option for them, Classic Gaming Quarterly is still a huge priority, and it has been extremely rewarding to watch it grow.
