Combat Box by Red Flight is a multiplayer gaming server for IL2 Sturmovik. For over a year now they have been bringing a new style of gaming to the IL2 multiplayer community. The server features custom designed maps inspired by historical events during WWII, and a focus on the Western front in Europe, 1944-45. The server has made quite an impact, with other server operators taking cues from their map designs and mechanics (which is great — everyone gets better servers to fly on!). They’ve had some really great support via Patreon, and they are using that to give back to the community. So far they’ve given away three copies of Battle of Bodenplatte, and one pre-order copy of Battle of Normandy. In one very heart-touching story, a pilot was able to gift their winning copy of Bodenplatte to a squadmate who had not been able to update to the latest game, and are now able to fly together again.
