Comedy Without Errors

Comedy Without Errors distinctly remembers the first time they made people laugh. They were in Year 5 at Pillans Point Primary School. They had a week to write and perform a speech to the class. They were achingly nervous. Mum told them to pick a topic they wanted to write about. They chose Frogs. They spent two whole days writing that speech (which for a 10 year old is about 50 years). They crammed every frog fact they could remember into their brain. They fully intended the speech to be serious. In their obsession, they forgot one thing. They couldn’t say their Rs. They sounded like Ws. The first fact was like the rumblings of an earthquake. Sideways glances. Tittering giggles. Their classmates couldn’t believe what was happening. “The Ghost Fwog lives in South Afwica”. Their class-mates began to crack, first in small waves then in giant swells. By the time they’d informed their class of the “Twee Fwog” the “Afwican Dwarf Fwog” and the “Fire Bellied Toad” (which was more hilarious because it didn’t have an R in it) their classmates looked like they’d been released from an insane asylum. Grayson Teaz was laughing so hard they’d started dribbling on the floor. Emma Dwite was giggling with such ferocity that they’d bitten into their maths book. Harrison Thomas cackled so hysterically when they described a fact about “Glass Fwogs” they both blew up and burst a snot balloon from their left nostril. They learned two facts that day. Firstly, for a group of 10 year old’s, there is nothing funnier on the planet than the word Fwog. Secondly, when people are laughing you don’t need to be nervous. They can’t remember a time when they weren’t either obsessed with watching or performing stand up. In their eyes it’s an art form and considering it’s such a huge force in our culture, they think it’s criminally underappreciated. The channel is their own little way of giving people some tools to analyse comedy and maybe give young comics ideas to make their comedy more interesting and entertaining. They have a good working knowledge of stand up but it’s not perfect. So be patient with them. Also, feedback! The goal is to create a community of comedy nerds so don’t be afraid to let them know what you think. Stand up is their favourite thing. It’s the place where all the things you thought were wrong or weird about yourself become strengths. Let’s bask in its glory together.
