Dan Schkade is a professional cartoonist. Many folks first heard of him when he was drawing Will Eisner’s “The Spirit” for Dynamite Entertainment, but now he imagines he’s better known for his Eisner and Ringo Award-nominated Webtoon “Lavender Jack” — a mystery-adventure series set in an alt-history 1910s, which he writes, draws, and letters, with colors by Jenn Manley Lee. Lavender Jack is his full-time gig now, and he’s having a ball with it. He loves being able to mix pulpy detective tropes with P.G. Wodehouse-syle silliness, and maybe talk a little about class and power in between all the murders and explosions and what-have-you. He also loves the audience he has on Webtoon — all these smart, perceptive readers who’ve found this series, and who just so happen to be exactly the kind of people he was writing it for in the first place. He’s got a great editor in Webtoon’s Bre Boswell, and now that they’re well into the second season, it really feels like they’ve gotten good at making this thing.
