David Donaldson is making videos where they educate as they learn. They’re meant to help people better understand lighting tools and lights. At the time of this post they have 38 episodes, and people really dig it. They’re coming up to the end of their inventory, and will either have to purchase or rent equipment to continue making tutorials. The expense of the rentals can be pricey, and although the rental house is willing to help, there are just some tools they can’t let them just borrow. For example, one of the most expensive lights out there is called an 18k, and it costs about $40,000. Obviously, they can’t buy something like that, for two reasons. 1) They’d prank their roomate by setting it up outside his window, to make him think it’s noon when really, it’s 2a.m. consistently. 2) It’s expensive. They’d like to continue making weekly videos, but they need help in order to really start digging into the more complicated and fun stuff. There’s also some interviews they’d like to shoot, but would require them to travel to either LA, NY, or Chicago. They have another channel that they’re thinking about creating, but they haven’t thought of a name yet, and has nothing to do with film but they think it’ll be a good one.
