Fatima Hussain

Fatima Hussain is a Desi American healer, writer, educator and sex-positive intersectional feminist. Their work dances joyously at the complicated crossroads of art, cultural criticism and emotional healing, tying together their love for language, their passion for education and their firm conviction that art is a conversation and that the conversations we choose to have right now are the fertile ground in which humanity’s future will take root. Amidst the chaos and the inner and outer turmoil of 2020, they left their job as a middle school teacher, both out of necessity to heal themselves emotionally and as a leap of faith to focus all of their energy on creating the kind of world they want our children to inherit. They believe from the depths of their being that creating a different world requires looking very closely at the world we have right now, starting and continuing new and difficult conversations about that world, and coming together to imagine something better and more beautiful. Their contribution to this collective journey of imagination is through their work both as a writer and as an educator, which includes writing poetry and creative non-fiction that facilitates conversations about cultural change and social justice, as well as designing and leading workshops on topics such as healing from trauma and sex-positive sex education. Unfortunately, much of the labor that artists and educators do continues to be both invisible and unpaid. They have faith in the power of our communities to keep us moving forward. If you believe in the kind of work they are doing and you have the means to support it, you will be helping to keep them fed, clothed and housed as they pour their heart and soul into the building of a better world for all of us. For that, you have their infinite love and gratitude.
