Guillaume Delacour is a French professional illustrator and comics artist. If you’re not used to French comics, you have to know that there’s a huge comics production in France, where they call it bande dessinee. They’re certainly on the world podium with America and Japan. Many of their comics are published in hard cover books which are called albums. They are the writer and illustrator of an albums serie titled Ariane Dabo la lance opale de feu – Ariane Dabo the fire opal spear in English. Three 50 pages volumes are already published in France by YIL edition and they are workin on the 4rth. They’re doing all the work: writing the story, doing the layout, drawing and coloring. Layouts and drawings are made on paper, and coloring and lettering are made on computer and graphic tablet. You can get more about Ariane Dabo on the blog: arianedabo.blogspot.fr (most in French but they’ll write more often in English from now on). Volume 1 la lance opale de feu ( the fire opale spear) was published on september 2013. Volume 2 l’ordre du sceptre de Baal ( the order of Baal’s scepter) was published on january 2015. Volume 3 la cit perdue de l’Atlas (the lost city of the Atlas) was published on june 2016. Volume 4 la main d’Orphe (Orpheus hand) is scheduled for the start of 2018. And they hope the serie will not end there. They’re already thinking of volumes 5 and 6. And they’re planning two series of spin-offs which will take place after volume 4. The two first volumes of these spin-offs are written and they began the layouts. But they won’t draw them. They’ve recruted two other wonderful artists who will work on these. Today there is no english version of Ariane Dabo’s adventures. And that’s why they’re on Patreon. They want the to discover Ariane Dabo and their work. And it will be difficult with only French version. By patronizing their work on Patreon, they will help them save time to work on Ariane Dabo #4. And on the translation of the 3 published volumes. Today they can’t spend all their time working on Ariane Dabo. In France it’s difficult for a comics artist to live from your creations if you’re not a bestseller. Ariane Dabo is a success for the independant comics editor YIL edition, but it’s not enough for them to live on it. Only a few comics stars in France can live decently from their work. For all others it’s a necessity to work on other projects. That’s why they have to spend most of their time looking for clients and orders to work on other comics and illustrations. Thus they created a short comic (4 pages) about the 1918 ceasefire, and they’re actually working on another comic about the lung cancer. In illustrations they’ve worked on posters or book covers, and recently for the website infinite-rpg.com. They’re also in touch for a boardgame project. All these projects are wonderful and they love working on. But they have so much ideas to develop Ariane Dabo universe and other personal projects that they need more time. And time is money, as you know. They want to translate existing Ariane adventures in English, at first on Patreon, and in a second time they could publish them on paper books with their editor YIL edition (he’s ready for it!). For this they need to gather a community of supports and readers to show him that it could work. So, are they ready to enter the world of Ariane Dabo, the fire opal spear?
