Hansika Jethnani

Hansika Jethnani

Hansika Jethnani is a poet and visual artist from the South Asian diaspora. They were born and raised in Indonesia, then China, and spent their late teens to early twenties in the UK. They’re currently 26, and are currently based in India. They write about themes including (but not limited to) colonialism, migration, stories of their ancestors, shame they’ve learned to carry, shame they’ve been unlearning, their fatness, their queerness, their mental squabbles. They like to think of poetry as a revolution in language, the piecing together of histories erased and stories untold. They studied photography between 2012 and 2016, and have been writing poems for as long as they can remember. Their earliest memory of writing poetry is when they were 8. During their degree, the two of their crafts merged. However, in recent years, they have been more a poet than a photographer, but their artistry isnt limited to art through words. They love experimenting with materiality, textures, and abstraction in a visual format, and these interests have recently led them to acrylic painting and alcohol inks as new mediums they’ve been exploring. They find that as an artist, they are constantly exploring what speaks to them as they continue to evolve and grow as a human being in this expansive universe.
