Happenstance Founders is Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell, the artistic co-directors of Happenstance Theater, professional theater makers, clowns, teachers, and the peddlers of whimsy. They created Happenstance in 2006 as a vehicle for their theatrical partnership. Eventually it expanded into the Ensemble quintet that it is today. Mark and Sabrina continue to create duo work and Mark still performs his solo shows at schools and for assembly programs as he has for over 30 years, at least, he did until Covid-19 hit. They are not sure how this will affect them in the long term. For now, they are creating online content and hoping that they will be able to perform live again soon. They also do other things that intersect with their Happenstance existence. Sabrina writes poetry, creates wigs and decorative adornments, gardens, is actively engaged in and occasionally paints. Mark restores and repairs instruments, builds functional objects and maintains the Happenstance Atelier. Together, they are cultivating a life that reflects their values to cause no harm, generate light, create beauty and whimsy, and prepare joyously for the inevitability of death. They are also proponents of the tenet Vintage Style Not Vintage Values, a term coined by the incredible Dandy Wellington.
