Jeremy Parish is an ex-games journalist who has become increasingly focused on a series called The Video Works, a companion piece to the Retronauts podcast. Beginning with Game Boy and expanding outward to encompass NES, Virtual Boy, and many more platforms, his aim with Video Works is to dig into the history of the “modern” (i.e. post-Atari crash) console games industry, beginning with the NES’s trial launch at the end of 1985. Video Works approaches the topic on a granular level: Surveying games for individual platforms in the order of their original release, while painting a picture of the broader context behind their creation, diving into the studios behind them, and exploring both their impact at the time of their debut along with their modern legacy.
