JOY & K is JOY. They’re mission is to create a community space where creatures of all kinds can come to feel inspired, safe (as can be), and like they belong. Art has been instrumental in their personal healing journey, and their formal art education gave them an overflowing wealth of knowledge to share. . . Meanwhile, they always felt like an outcast. Making art was the only way they could have their voice heard for a long time and no matter where they went, they didn’t feel like they belonged. They found out years after falling in love with making art that they had untreated complex-PTSD along with other ailments & disabilities. Most of their life was spent in a state of perpetual crisis, crippling anxiety, and panic attacks until they found the proper support. When they finally found access to health care and mental health support, they were able to begin processing what happened to them and why they became this way as an adult. Their childhood was lonely and consistent with almost unbelievable traumatic events. Now, after that type of upbringing, they found themselves in a body that is disabled by chronic illness stemming from being stuck in stress response modes. The healing path that has saved them from destroying themselves as a result of heavy trauma is spirituality. Finding their way as a passionate, disabled artist in a money-driven society . . . They never want to feel alone again. They love spending time with themselves, but they dream of a healthy, joyful, diverse, and magical community that cherishes them as they cherish them. Their vision is universal peace as peoples of all types of identities work together to encourage holistic wellness, authentic self-expression, and fearless co-creation. They’re not the only one who holds this larger collective vision. . . there are many new tribes and communities forming that are committed to working together for collective human liberation. . . for the betterment of all life, exercising our sovereignity. Every massive tree was once a seed, right? They can do this together. The undeniable truth: You are loved and lovable because you exist. The messages their art brings forth include moments of bliss and reclaiming of their true self. The illness is just like a scar – a reminder of what needs to be healed. The real them lives joyfully beneath the scars: bright like the shining sun and light as the stars. They work to bring loving, gentle reminders to you as you are siblings within the human family. Their story is just their perspective on the greater story of humanity and planet Earth.
