Judy Zee (aka Astrayeah on other places) is a 20-something freelance illustrator who likes to cover songs from various anime and videogames on Youtube. Some years ago, they came across a talented YouTuber who does all these amazing vocal renditions from the OST of a certain DS game that they really really like — and you know what? That’s actually the first time they became aware of cover artists on Youtube. Songwriting had been one of their secret hobbies, so one day, they wrote their English take on a certain Final Fantasy song. They figured it would sound better if said YouTuber sang this instead of themselves, so they sent their lyrics to them and eventually, they made a cover out of it. It felt great to hear the lyrics that they wrote in an actual song, so eventually they managed to muster up the courage to work on their own. Fast track another couple of years until they had like, almost 1k subs on YouTube. “Oh wow, almost 4 digits, yay! I guess I should try to sound better on my next cover — no wait, I SHOULD BUY A NICE MICROPHONE!” They only used a Skype mic at first, and then the usual mic that everyone uses for sing-alongs. At that time they didn’t have a stable job so it took quite a while until they saved enough money to buy a kinda-okay condenser microphone that cost around a hundred dollars. They kept on making covers (and parodies eventually) until the subscriber count ballooned into 10k in just a year and a half, much to their surprise. This is the point of no return, they guess. They’ve no other choice but to keep improving with each song. Along the way they purchased some additional equipment using their hard-earned money. Sadly, all the stuff that they spent and still have to spend are kinda in the way of their living expenses which includes their share on the rent plus the extra money that they pitch in to send their three younger step-siblings to school. ALSO, WHAT ABOUT THE MONEY THAT THEY STILL HAFTA SPEND ON TOYS AND VIDEO GAMES!?!??! XD It is their goal to produce at least one content every two weeks, and should they decide to help them out, that tiny dream would become a reality. It’s completely okay if they don’t btw, it ain’t mandatory. The stuff that they make won’t change, and they will still work harder in order to make stuff that would make people happy! The thing is, being a patron has its perks… 😛
