Live Canon is a poetry organisation, that publishes, performs, shares and celebrates poetry, engaging with emerging and established poets globally. They have lots of different wings. The Live Canon Ensemble is their group of professional, poetry-loving actors, who perform poetry old and new at festivals, theatres, museums, on radio and film wherever they can. The publishing house runs competitions for children and adults, individual poems and collections, and is delighted to bring new, exciting work to the publics attention. And then they teach, running all sorts of online courses to encourage and inspire poets from all around the world. At the heart of everything they do, they want to spread the love and creation of wonderful poetry, rooted in a community of talented, passionate writers, readers, and performers. Theyve had to cancel performances, book sales, events and readings, while trying to provide some employment for their actors and freelancers who’ve just seen all their work vanish into thin air, and they haven’t received a penny of government support. Theyve heard first-hand from their community that the work they do has provided light and hope over the last few months, and they desperately don’t want to have to stop doing what they do so they need their Patrons help. A lot of the poetry they perform was written by poets under the patronage of a philanthropist – this is the 21st century equivalent. Whether you’re a poet, a parent of a budding poet, an avid reader, a poetry enthusiast, a critic, a publisher, a performer, or a theatre fan, your support will directly enable them to keep creating, keep supporting, and keep sharing fantastic poetry. They want their Patrons to know and feel that they’re a vital part of the work they do. So they’ll keep in touch, pick their brains, and create special work just for them.
