Maranie

Maranie

Maranie is a photographer, videographer and writer here to share photos, stories and personal insights about life as an independent journalist. Amidst what feels like a constant deluge of images and information they strive to provide something different, honest, relatable ground-truth reporting delivered to your inbox. They also share about the hustle it takes to carve out a living as a freelance journalist; sometimes serious, sometimes humorous but always unflinching and sincere. From Iraqi Kurdistan to the US/Mexico border and from Vietnam to the Democratic Republic of Congo their work focuses on human displacement, social justice issues and the effects of conflict. Most of their work is self-initiated, self-funded and often self-published (on social media and in spaces like a monthly newsletter). They’re known to hustle odd jobs for plane tickets and to sleep on floors in order to cut expenses. Every dollar is one potentially used to support the next story. By becoming a Patron you are immediately part of a community of subscribers, a virtual family united in support of independent journalism.
