Marisa Handler

Marisa Handler is a writer and singer-songwriter. They have been doing this a while. They are the author of the memoir Loyal to the Sky, which won a Nautilus Gold Award for world-changing books (and has a Foreword by the inimitable Rebecca Solnit). Their essays, poetry, and fiction have appeared in numerous national publications. They earned their MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop, and are the recipient of a Fulbright grant and an Elizabeth George Foundation grant. Their poem The Vanishing won the Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. And they’ve been fortunate to have received residency fellowships from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, the Santa Fe Art Institute, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Mesa Refuge, the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and the Valparaiso Foundation (Spain). They have just completed the novel they’ve been working on for eleven years and are currently in conversation with literary agents regarding representation.
