Mary Robinette Kowal is a writer, puppeteer, and audiobook narrator. Their goal in each of these careers was to hit the point where they could turn down the gigs they didn’t want to do. As funny as it is to talk about narrating books where they have to say, in earnest, “She released his love snake from its denim prison” these aren’t things they really want to be doing. But this is how they make their living. There are a ton of projects that they want to do that are labors of love. Ask a Puppet. Regency dresses. Teaching. Heck. Even the things they get paid to do they’d like more time to do instead of having to pile deadlines on top of each other.
