Matt Poss is a black-dirt singer/songwriter, born and bred in the little town of Effingham Illinois. He is in Nashville quite a bit, but he still lives in Effingham County. Back in 2002, he ran into his hero, Chris Knight at the Ryman Theater. They talked for about 10 minutes. He asked Knight if he should move to Nashville to pursue his dream of being a songwriter. Knight responded by saying that he still lives in Slaughters KY, where he was born, and commutes to Music City. He added that he should stay where ever it is his songs come from. He should stay close to the well. The result is that his music is different than what you’ll find coming out of Nashville. It has that Midwestern rock edge to it. They call it Black-Dirt Country Rock, because that’s what it is. All he wants to do is keep writing and releasing music. He wants to keep travelling around meeting new people and seeing new places. And he just wants to keep on singing songs around campfires, up on stages, in ski lodges, on beaches, at festivals and rodeos, and in legendary dive bars around this great nation of ours, and for that matter, the world.
