Matthew Charles is a transracial adoptee, poet, and actor. They have been writing since they were 8 years old and they recently self-published their debut poetry collection, You Can Not Burn The Sun, a book about their experiences and activism in the city of Madison, Wisconsin in the wake of the murder of George Floyd. As an artist and human, they believe in the liberative power of knowing, owning, and telling our stories to ourselves and the world around us in order to heal and be known. Accepting ourselves as ourselves is the fundamental journey that all of humanity is on, and they hope that their art can help both them and others do just that.
