Oberlin People's Assembly

Oberlin People’s Assembly is a mutual aid group in Oberlin, OH committed to organizing and direct action to ensure our community is safe, fed, and housed. They believe in and fight for the complete abolition of prisons, policing, whiteness, and class. They are working toward the end of settler colonialism, capitalism, imperialism, racism, ableism, misogyny, transphobia, transmisogyny, misogynoir, anti-Blackness, fatphobia, homophobia, borders, and environmental destruction. They recognize and are learning from histories of mutual aid organizing, particularly in Black and Indigenous communities, and believe in centering the most oppressed. In the U.S., which was built on the enslavement of Black people and the genocide of Indigenous people, this means fighting for Black and Indigenous sovereignty and liberation. They organize weekly distributions of hot meals, groceries, hygiene supplies, clothes, and other essential items. They also raise funds to support neighbors to pay rent, utilities, and medical supplies.
