Pepijn de Vos

Pepijn de Vos is Pepijn, and they like high-quality tools. They started their career as a self-taught software developer, and then did a degree in electrical engineering and integrated circuit design. During their degree they became very disappointed in commercial tools for electrical engineers, and decided they’d rather work on better tools than become a chip designer and spend the rest of their life in Cadence. For their internship at Symbiotic EDA, they worked on Project Apicula, which aims to create an open source FPGA flow for Gowin FPGAs. This project has reached a proof-of-concept stage, but needs more work to be generally useful. They have been working on small improvements occasionally in their spare time, but several big tasks have been postponed. Their rough plan of attack is to Continue documenting the bitstream format until all parts for a practical design are covered. Write a proper Nextpnr target (to replace the current nextpnr-generic Python target). Design dev boards to grow the community and widen the range of supported devices. Continue to improve the open source tools for chip designers in various areas. In every hobby project there comes a time where the shine wears off, and you have to find motivation in other places. This can be ideology, delayed gratification, and let’s face it, money.
