PianoFight is one of the most active indy arts communities on the West Coast. Each year, their venue hosts over 1,500 performances, with 2,000 local artists, for 50,000 audience members. And they pride themselves on providing affordable, robust infrastructure for these artists to develop innovative new performance. That infrastructure includes their performance spaces as well as marketing, technical, production, and box office support. It also includes their in-house creative company, which produces low-barrier-to-entry shows for local writers, actors, and directors, such as Pint Sized Plays (free immersive theater in the Tenderloin) and ShortLived (America’s largest audience-judged short play competition, with no fee to submit).
