Richard Davey is Phaser’s creator. Phaser is a free, open-source, HTML5 game framework. It allows anyone to create games that run in web browsers or compiled to native apps via 3rd party tools. It is based on open web standards and built using JavaScript, technologies which represent freedom. Freedom from costs, licensing, turn-over audits, out-dated UIs, and subscriptions. Most importantly, it offers freedom from platform and vendor lock-in. Richard started work on Phaser in 2012 and has spent the past 6 years tirelessly improving and updating it. Every single thing he’s done with Phaser has been to try and create a better development experience for you. If the current popularity of Phaser is any indication, then all that effort is paying off. It gives him an immense sense of pleasure seeing it used and he loves playing the incredible games you all create. Yet, at the same time, there is just so much more he’d like to do with it. Since November 2017 Richard has been working on Phaser full-time. Prior to this, he was mixing client projects with Phaser development, but it wasn’t leaving enough time to give Phaser the attention it deserved. And, truth be told, his heart has always been in building Phaser itself and empowering other developers. It’s hard work, yet it’s what he loves doing. If you work for a company or are a freelancer that uses Phaser to create games for clients, it would be great to think that if Phaser has helped you earn money, you could give a little back. However, he knows plenty of you use Phaser just for personal projects. In which case, he’d ask that if you agree with his sentiments as to why Phaser being free and open is important, and you’re able to, please support it. Every amount helps.
