RISE Moldova is a community of investigative journalists, programmers and activists from Moldova and Romania. They investigate organised crime and make connections from offshore, expose schemes of money laundering from Europe and Asia Central, schemes of corruption, fraud and tax evasion, illegal arms trafficking and expose secret businesses of politicians. In the last few years they have exposed secret overseas properties of oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc: “The Oligarch’s Paradise”, but they have also investigated secret businesses of the Socialists during the 2016 Presidential campaign – “The Money of Dodon from Bahamas”. Their investigations have generated: criminal cases; internal investigations; debates in Parliament and at the Government; arrests and convictions; resignations of senior officials; institutional reforms and elimination of a structure that intercepts illegally politicians, journalists and activists; public debates and the organization of protests..
