Over the years, they’ve covered festivals across the globe, including Cannes, Venice, Toronto, Sundance, True/False, Berlinale, Locarno, and countless others. The giants of the film, music, theater, and literary worlds have given them their time to talk about their work: Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Laurie Anderson, Larry Kramer, Walter Hill, Kathryn Bigelow, James Gray, Isabelle Huppert, Paul Verhoeven, Olivier Assayas, Michel Gondry, D.A. In 2010, Slant joined forces with The House Next Door, founded by New York magazine TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz, bringing the the arts and culture blog’s content in-house. Film Comment singled out the House Next Door as one of the top film criticism sites, writing: “One would be hard-pressed to find an online film magazine as inclusive or expansive as this one.” Indeed, inclusivity has always been their mission. Slant is reaching more readers than ever before, but advertising revenue across the Internet is falling fast, hitting independently owned and operated publications like Slant the hardest.
