Stephen DiJoseph is a musician, filmmaker, performer and producer. They have Tourettes. Welcome to their Patreon project – ‘The Art in The Syndrome’. This project is aimed at bringing attention to… the ART in the syndrome: The high level of creative energy that seems to be an intrinsic part of neurological conditions like Tourettes, OCD, ADHD, Aspergers, Autism and more. This creative power has literally shaped the world we live in. In 2009, they began work on a short autobiographical film about living with Tourettes and being a creator. The result was called ‘A SynapTic Adventure: Tourettes and Beyond’. “Beyond” because, as they began to research the connection between creativity and neuro-diverse conditions, they found that many if not all of the worlds “movers and shakers” were among the “neurally gnarled” ! Alexander Graham Bell, Nikola Tesla, Howard Hughes, Thomas Edison, Abraham Lincoln. These are the minds that have so strongly contributed to the very life we live today!. A Tourettes research study of the National Institutes of Health – July 2017 states…”Moreover, in our clinical experience, TS patients have a strong predisposition for the arts (music, painting, expressive writing and theatre) and for jobs requiring creativity and divergent thinking.” Apparently a brain “out of whack” is on a creative track! They second that emotion! and… they’re super excited to have you consider supporting this project, helping both share their work and spread the word about the ART in the syndrome. They’ll be programming music and film projects as well as interviews and talks with some very amazing people who “collaborate” with these conditions. For instance, people like ‘The Simpsons’ animator Chance Raspberry and Pop Icon Billie Ellish.
