Terri M. Roberts is a certified fitness instructor and certification industry leader in Halifax, Canada. They have an academic background in Gender Studies and Education (BA, BEd, MA in progress). The name of their thesis for their MA is The Pink Dumbbell Problem and they’ll be using their research from this project for the first several videos (at least) on this channel. The goal of their YouTube channel to be a place for discussion of the education side of the fitness industry, a feminist philosophical approach to their exercise pedagogy, and the place of exercise in our lives. This isn’t a channel for workouts to follow along at home – plenty of great people already do that brilliantly – but for people to learn about why we wacky exercise loving trainers do the things we do, and for us to talk about how we can do them better. Questions about fitness, education, or a feminist/leftist/social justice approach to both? Reach out here, on YouTube, or connect to them on Twitter (@TMRobertsHfx). Their mission is to create an online space where they can say whatever they want about fitness, and not self censor due to their job as a fitness instructor.
