The Stroller Workshop is aiming to provide the public with impartial, informative reviews of new strollers aimed primarily at analyzing their mechanical and functional attributes as they are likely to perform under real-world conditions. Since opening their workshop in 2011, they’ve had the opportunity to work both with manufacturers and retailers, as well as thousands of private consumers. And this unique middle position, between consumers and manufacturers, has allowed them an understanding of the causes behind a wide variety of mechanical and functional problems that manufacturers are (for the most part) unlikely to understand with their purely statistics-informed return policies. In their experience, a lot of product-reviews these days seem, unfortunately, to be more about selling products via web-stores or affiliate-marketing, than about giving honest information. Their vision for this channel is larger than this, and for that reason, they have decided to avoid the potentially-corrupting trappings of both sales-engines and paid-promotion. Given current environmental concerns, this sort of a shift towards longevity and reusability is important, and not just in the world of strollers. Thus, with this vision in mind, it seems clearly unethical to them, to engage in any of the more common sales-oriented income methods of other review-channels. But what this means though, is that, not only is their income limited to basic Youtube ads and many joys from the perspective of an organization that is trying to effect positive change.
