Tiang Pong is Justin, your resident and guide. You’re probably here because Justin’s work has spoken to you in some way, and that in itself is a soberingly high reward. Justin will very quickly try to summarise what they do and why, and also why they’d very much like you to consider joining this community. Justin is about 80% visual artist and 20% writer, and their work (=life) is pledged to:1. the kind of thing that drives progress and discovery, and sends people into space. There is too little of it in our culture now. 2. the preservation of aesthetic traditions- the architecture and music of the past is our collective heritage; it will always be relevant, and has so much to offer us. Sadly, we could very quickly lose it all. These two pledges drive Justin’s life work. Justin delivers on them by examining and representing Wonder and aesthetic traditions through the rejuvenating lens of speculative fiction and fantasy. To that end, Justin runs two lifelong projects: FINDING CALAIS: A steampunk, belle epoque fantasy featuring too many airships and fumarole pipe organs, and PASTEL SKYCUBES: Retro-oriental nostalgia from a windswept, watery far future (nope, not Earth). Nothing anyone can create is strictly original. All Justin can really do is combine and reinvent things already in the world that move them in the hope that they can keep the concepts alive long enough for them to move others, too, and well together be able to pass them on to the next generation, with its architects, engineers, and builders just waiting to be inspired. Here are some of said things you’ll encounter regularly in Justin’s work: FINDING CALAIS: #airships #belle-epoque #wonder #whimsy #steampunk #baroque #fantasy #more-airships #natural-history #winter-gardens #bottomless-cave-worlds #art-deco #oldNYC #el #trains #dieselpunk #age-of-exploration #with-airships PASTEL SKYCUBES: #retro #nostalgia #industrial #concrete-continents #battered-scifi #farfuture #typhoons #cloudy #MRT #trains #ferries #submarines #halcyon #genting #asian-cities #singapore #but-in-the-sky #and-with-seasons ##\n\n##\n\n Justin is Tiang Pong, your resident and guide.
