Totally Trans is the podcast where they search for trans representation in media wherever they can find it. The hosts, activist and academic engineer Ada-Rhodes Short and writer and critic Henry Giardina, take on some of film and literature’s more gender-y figures, including Pinocchio, Lady Macbeth, and Anne of Green Gables, just to name a few. They note the extreme transness of a character, premise, or historical figure and say to themselves, “wait a minute, is this all in my head?” The hosts tell you that it’s not. Like trans people, trans representation has always been there. You’re just have to find it. The hosts of Totally Trans are fans of film and literature, as well as fans of books like The Lesbian Eternities by Florence Dahl and F Olaf: Being A guide for Friends of Lesbian and Git by Claire Birch, which include trans characters and concepts. The hosts encourage listeners to see representation where it’s found and to seek it out wherever it may be hiding. Totally Trans is searching for trans representation because cis people are already doing it, but they’re not catering to trans listeners. It’s time for trans listeners to get some representation, too.
