Rocky Rivera

Rocky Rivera

Rocky Rivera is a rapper, writer, author, and Mom of two. They’re a former hip hop journalist who just released their first of many books entitled Snakeskin. They have a new project on Beatrock Music, which they haven’t released anything since 2015. They grew up in the Bay Area, like many working class families of color in the Nineties. As they got older and Tech moved in, many of their friends and families have been gentrified out of their community. They were lucky enough to find a rent-controlled apartment in Oakland, and because of that, they’re able to still work on their music and serve their community through their art. They plan on using the very same tools of technology to level the playing field, and with their help, balance the scales towards equity in community and the arts. Their biggest challenge as an independent artist is to get listeners away from a transactional model of music and into a sustainable and equitable model of investment into community arts by supporting artists directly. This aligns with social justice theory because it provides a multi-tiered and equitable way for folks to receive valuable digital content at their affordability level, while also supporting a commercial-free message. Whether its a magazine like Vice or a station like Fox News, they’re all owned by Rupert Murdoch and designed to sell publications as a product, not just a way to stay informed. Joining up will increase their access to exclusive merchandise including stickers, prints, and t-shirts that they can’t buy anywhere else as a reward for their loyalty. Ally tiers and up will have access to downloadable content (mp3, book PDFs, mixtapes, and curriculum) while Solidarity tiers and up will receive physical copies of everything they create together. All members will get to vote on what they want next and what kind of incentives maximize their subscription. Rocky will be working on their long-awaited next album with Beatrock Music. Patrons will get to see the entire process: from beat selection all the way to mixing and mastering studio sessions at the BRM compound in LA. Patrons will watch them write, record and release an album, in anticipation of upcoming live performances, where they will receive free admission and All-Access VIP. Rocky would love to take this show on the road and meet the patrons who have given them the ability to support themselves and their family as a BIPOC woman artist, and that is the bottom line. How does Patreon benefit fans and members that join? What can they expect? There will be an archived and unreleased content directly from Rocky Rivera. All tiers will receive
