1000 Portraits of the Goddess is an Australian artist and art therapist who combines art and storytelling for healing in a project called, ‘1001 Portraits of the Goddess’. The inspiration behind the project was to break the silence around sexual abuse. Sharing the story using art made the creator realize how healing it was not only for them, but others as well, and this gave them an idea for using both storytelling and art as a means to collective healing and social change. As they began to travel the world, however, they found that many women were not able to share their stories because they needed to go through a process of healing first. So, they are currently doing art therapy with women and girls rescued from human trafficking in Phnom Penh – the capital of Cambodia – whose works will eventually be exhibited for the purpose of healing and social change in the wider community. The purpose of this project is to help this artist achieve their goals.
