Black Cat Magazine is a literary magazine that focuses on speculative fiction, poetry, and art. Founded in March 2021 by radical, nonbinary and multigender writers, artists, and musicians, their mission is to use literature and art to help build a culture rooted in liberation, non-hierarchical relationships, and community-based participatory institutions. Black Cat Magazine is free and doesn’t charge for submissions. And, they pay authors and artists for their work because they value their time, creative labor, and the contribution it makes to society. If you are a member of a marginalized community (Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, LGBTQIA+/GSRM, neurodivergent, folks living with disabilities, etc.), you’re encouraged to submit your work. They publish work from both seasoned authors and artists and newcomers. The magazine is partial to fantasy and science fiction including stories, poetry, and art that tell tales of resistance, building better worlds and stronger communities, equity and justice, and revolutionary ideals.
