Artists need to buy coffee (and sometimes food as well) and artist’s kids need even more than coffee to subsist (or so they’re told). Moreover, Amazon takes a long time to pay their authors, and that’s a bit of a problem for right now. You see, in the winter of 2017, their second son surprised them by coming early. Two and half months early. And so they spent nearly three months in the NICU. Now the hospital bills are coming in, and that long wait for Amazon checks to arrive is looking even longer. But this isn’t just about paying bills, it’s about, as they said, connecting more directly with people and finding the best possible way to deliver their writing to them as soon as it is ready.
