James Dixon is a musician and storyteller who writes songs based on stories – be they theirs or other people’s, past or present. Telling stories through music is something they think is ancient and boundless. Done well, it can be transcendent, taking us to another time and place to experience someone else’s story. James plays music full time (when not in lockdown, of course!) and released their EP Bromeliad Acoustic Sessions in 2017. Over 2 years, they wrote and recorded their album Trespassing Light, which they released in March 2020. They were just about to head out on a European tour supporting Seasick Steve with their new album when they went into lockdown. To make the most of this situation, they are just about to start working on their next album and think it’s a great time to share their writing and recording process.
