James Kiser is a fan of a lot of nerdy things. But he doesn’t let that keep him glued to a computer screen. He has chosen to take his nerdery and focus it into something active: lightsabers. Now for any of you out there who thought lightsabers were just flashy quasi-mystical made up shiny things in a movie franchise, lets clear a few things up. Lightsabers are real. They don’t cut through metal or deflect laser blasts, but they are sabers, and they do emit light. They also look awesome. Which brings us to the question, what do you do with them. Saber spinning is a non-martial performance art like juggling, contact juggling, dance, or poi. It uses marital elements to put on a show, it’s fun to watch, and it’s fun to do. It is also an excellent exercise and fitness program for those like James who could never imagine themselves in yoga pants and a great tool for long exposure photography. In sum, it is an art and an exercise routine, but it does not require any background skill sets and can be used to different degrees by all age groups and fitness levels. It is artistic expression, that requires only a basic level of understanding of physics and body mechanics, the right technique (which is where James can help you), and practice. That brings him to what he is doing here today. James has been making youtube videos for some time now covering lightsaber spinning and he has gotten some pretty positive feedback. He has watched those who have begun to work with his program, advance and start to do truly amazing and beautiful things. Additionally, he reviews sabers and saber related products like fire tools, and has recently branched into costuming and charity work as a member of the 501st and the Dark Empire. People seem to appreciate his videos, and he could certainly use some help and support so that he can continue to make them. The content he is offering is also something he freely gives away. That is what he has been doing and will continue to do on his youtube channel. He is not in this for the money, though if you choose to throw some at him, he could certainly use it. He is in this principally to help others and encourage them to get out, get active, and express themselves through saber work. What he is proposing is that you help him with your support so that he can make higher production value videos. You could also use this platform to suggest videos you would like to see related to what James does. He will also be releasing other creative compositions for his supporters like art and short fiction. His work in these areas tends to be sometimes comedic and sometimes dark, but has been well received and occasionally published. James hopes you enjoy it, and if you are able, he hopes you are willing to help support its creation through your support.
