Jamie Berrout is a Mexican trans writer, translator and editor. The kind of work that they’re doing, alongside a number of other emerging trans writers of color, is vital because so little of it is available at this moment. For generations, it has been nearly impossible for them to write their own stories and share their thoughts and experiences with others in their communities. The same social conditions that erased much of their collective past, and that to this day make it hard for them to even survive, make it so that their creative work is devalued, underfunded, and ignored when it is not being attacked out of hatred. That’s why they’re asking for support: to make it possible for them to continue their writing by helping them cover the cost of essential things like rent and bills for the trans health care they need to access. As they continue their current writing projects, they’ll be posting their work to their website and sharing drafts and finished excerpts from the books they’re working on.
