Japanese Journey

Japanese Journey

Japanese Journey started in the beginning of 2016 with a blog by a German guy named Johannes (me), educating people about Japan. The first real public attention was driven by an infographic I made. It reached the front pages of both Imgur and 9gag and was seen by hundreds of thousands of people. However, while many people seemed to enjoy this content, it didn’t drive many readers to my webpage. So I started looking for other platforms which I could use to educate about Japan and build a following. In September 2016 I finally decided to try out YouTube and the Japanese Journey YouTube-channel was born. On September 14th, I uploaded my first video, How to survive in Japanese toilets to the platform. The video didn’t gain as much attraction as I had hoped, but remembering my previous success on Imgur, I converted parts of the videos into GIFs and uploaded them to the platform. The post hit the front page, gaining more than 246k views. This brought the first 18 subscribers to my channel. Since then I haven’t stopped creating new, original content from and about Japan. To give you a taste of what my videos look like, here are two of my personal favorites: The costs of running the Japanese Journey YouTube channel are about $200 per month. However, advertising income is only about $100 per month. Therefore, breaking even is the first goal of this page. I personally enjoy exploring Japan the most. Showing you areas I love and introducing the traditions and people living there. Traveling in Japan is not cheap however. Therefore, with every ~$500 we can achieve above breaking even, I will travel to a different place in Japan to show you aspects of the country you have never seen before. Going beyond. Eventually, I want to be able to produce more content for you. Given my limited time and the enormous amount of it required to produce a Japanese Journey video (anywhere between 10 and 160 hours), I need help for that. My plan is to get support from other YouTubers, editors, camera people and otherwise creatives to eventually create better videos, more frequently.
