Lorka

Lorka

Lorka is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist working on a new album on themes of collective healing. They are mostly self taught and are currently self-producing and recording the album as a solo project. The music is minimalist, dreamy and ethereal- they play harp and layer breath with lyrics that remind us of the capacity of being human, being alive, and fully feeling. Their music has strong cultural influence and meaning. Their parents left the Soviet Union in the 60s/70s and came to the United States as political refugees. They are the first generation born in the United States, and they grew up between cultures, raised by their parents and grandparents. They find that music is a powerful ways to express, honor and work with topics that are too big to work with logically. The series of Song Diaries that describe the writing process, meaning and lyrics behind each song, are also posted by Lorka.
