Shaswar Mame is an independent, freelance journalist based in Berlin who has been working with Kurdish media for 14 years. They have published work in Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji) through digital platforms. They are now launching a new video channel where they will debate and discuss a wide range of topics concerning politics, economics, society, intellectual and cultural issues, focusing on Kurdistan and the Middle East. They will interview incredible guests to talk about human rights, politics, economy, environment, civil society, women rights and sexuality and many other topics. In addition, they will produce many other contents such as short videos, documentaries and podcasts. Free and independent media in Kurdistan has been suppressed or in most cases dysfunctional due to the governments pressure, therefore this channel wants to offer an alternative to the state and party media which often promote racist, sexist and right-wing perspectives. Moreover, It will challenge the powerful fostering accountability and confront all forms of injustices. They will enlist a team prepare, edit and do videography of the channel. Thus, they need financial support and contributions. They do not seek or accept any help from any government, political parties or the powerful. We can prove that without depending on state and political party financial contribution that independent media can exist and thrive.
