Green Street Poetry is Josh Martin. Two years ago, they founded Green Street Poetry, an organization dedicated to providing an encouraging and engaging space for writers to network, build their confidence, and develop their craft. By partnering with local publishers, authors, and small businesses, they have helped dozens of their members advance their careers as writers by providing a platform for them to share their work and helping them get published – often for the first time in their lives. While other writing workshops in Philadelphia cost between $40-$75 a session, their workshops are – and will always remain – FREE to the public to ensure they are accessible to the diverse writing community of Philadelphia and beyond. Of course, there are significant costs associated with the maintenance of the organization including the website, space rental, promotion/outreach etc. Additionally, in the time of COVID-19, they have additional costs with the need for software subscriptions. To this day, they have never charged for a workshop or reading, and have been funding the operation out of their own pocket for the sake of keeping this incredible community alive.
